Restaurant Stroll Offers Taste of Union City

Tickets for the Union City Lions' second annual Restaurant Stroll, to be held May 19, are currently on sale. $15 gets you into 16 restaurants.

If you’re planning to attend the Union City Lions Club’s next Thursday, you’d better come hungry.

For $15, attendees will receive a coupon booklet that allows them to sample menu items from 15 different restaurants at Union Landing, along with a coupon to .

“Most people, when they got two-thirds of the way through their coupons, they were full,” said Lions President Fred Penning about last year’s inaugural event.

From to Tuttimelon, to , the May 19 event offers a sampling of foods from some of Union City’s most popular restaurants. Between 6 and 9 p.m., booklet holders will be able to eat their way through Union Landing.

“It’s a very good way to go to places in Union Landing that you haven’t been to before that you want to try out,” said Jenny Cutter, secretary for the . “Last year, the restaurants were very generous with their portions.”

Cutter said other Lions Clubs have held similar events for years but it wasn’t until last April that the Union City chapter gave it a shot. The event was a success, with the club selling out more than 250 coupon booklets and raising close to $5,000 for the Lions' community projects.

The Union City Lions Club, Established in 1963, sponsorss a number of events and projects each year. Among them are an annual Thanksgiving dinner for seniors, scholarships for high school students and an annual student speakers’ contest. 

This year, the Lions hope to sell 300 tickets and raise even more money for community service projects, Cutter said.

Coupon booklets are on sale now and may be purchased in advance at , 33424 Alvarado-Niles Rd. They may also be purchased by calling Jenny Cutter at 510-760-9838 or emailing her at jcutter@republicservices.com.

Walk-up tickets may be available at the Lions Club table in front of Starbucks, 32240 Dyer St., starting at 5:30 p.m. on the night of the event, if supplies last. Maps will also be provided at the table.
