Search Continues at Garin Park for Possible Person in Distress

A search for a possibly distressed person at Garin Park is continuing today after East Bay Regional Park police received a report Wednesday evening that someone was heard calling for help, a dispatcher said.

An EBRPD sergeant told Union City Patch late Wednesday night that the agency received four independent reports of a woman calling for help.

The initial call came in around 7:15 p.m., the dispatcher said.

Crews set up at the staging area on May Road and conducted a ground search, with assistance from a California Highway Patrol aircraft, Alameda County Fire Department crews and Union City police.

They were unable to locate anyone or anything suspicious, the dispatcher said.

Today, a park helicopter will perform a follow-up search to ensure no one is stranded or distressed in the park.

A reader who lives near the park told Union City Patch that “everyone who heard it got goose bumps or had the hair stand up on the backs of their necks.”

An East Bay Regional Park District police officer at the scene Wednesday night said the agency often receives reports of noise or disturbances but they usually turn out to be nothing.
