This Week: Halloween Carnival, Free Comics, Tropics Flea Market

See what's happening in Union City this week.

Heads up! Here are five things going on this week that you should know about:

  • Help save co-curricular programs while having some Halloween fun Tuesday at James Logan High School for the New Haven Boosters Association and New Haven Schools Foundation's Halloween Carnival. From 4 to 8 p.m., guests can play a number of cool carnival games, participate in a costume contest, enjoy live performances and more. Game tickets only cost $1 each.
  • Drop by Comic and Figure Addicts on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and get a special Halloween treat — free comic books! Customers and trick-or-treaters alike will receive a free comic book just for popping into the store. There's only a limited supply, so make sure you stop by early. Comic and Figure Addicts is located at 3902 Smith St.
  • The fun doesn't have to stop when Halloween ends. Join the Hayward Area Historical Society on Friday for a special crafts workshop in observance of Dia de los Muertos. From 5 to 8 p.m., participants will create their own shadowbox and magnet. Those attending are asked to bring small photos to personalize their shadowboxes. The event costs $15 to attend. More information is available here.
  • The Tropics Mobile Home Park is inviting everyone to raid their goods at the Tropics Flea Market. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, visitors can find more than 40 tables of treasures, such as antiques and hand-crafted gifts for the holidays.
  • Is your kid the next chess wizard? Then hone his or her skills at the Union City Library's free Kids Chess Club. Held Saturdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and led by two chess masters, the club will help children ages 8 to 14 learn how to play and the best strategies for winning.
