This Week: Holiday Lights, Winter Break, Last Chance to Visit Santa

Here's what's going down in and around Union City this week

Here are five things coming up this week that you should know about:

  • Leisure Services' begins today and runs for the duration of winter break for children ages 6-12. Held Monday through Friday at the Holly and Kennedy community centers, the day camp features daily arts and crafts, games, cooking and sports, along with a variety of excursions. Camp Pollywog is also being offered for children ages 3-5. For more information, contact the Holly Community Center at 510-675-5488.
  • The holidays are coming up quickly, and it's the last week to catch the awesome holiday light displays at and . The decorated homes are open to the public through Christmas weekend and also serve as donation drop-off and fundraising sites for various local organizations. To see photos from Queen Anne Court, .   • It's also the last week your family can visit Santa Claus at to share holiday wishlists and take pictures. Visiting hours with Santa are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, click here.
  • New Haven schools begin their winter break this week with all schools starting their break on Monday, Dec. 19. Students will return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3, a day later than previous years. 
  • Schools aren’t the only ones who will be on break. The majority of city offices will be closed between Friday, Dec. 23 and Jan. 2 and reopen on Jan. 3. For more information, visit www.unioncity.org or call 510-471-3232.
