Treats for the Heat: Mocha Coconut, Anyone?

The lowdown on how to cool down, especially if you've got a sweet tooth.

With temperatures reaching close to 90 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, it's clear that the sun and heat are here to stay. Here are five ways you can stay cool by grabbing some treats around town.

  1. Baskin-Robbins: Nothing beats a delicious scoop of your favorite ice cream. Hit either of the two Union City locations and pick among a variety of classic favorites, or try the flavor of the month, Toffee Pecan Crunch. Get a classic scoop on a cone, splurge on a sundae or get a 31 Degree Below soft serve blend.
  2. Tuttimelon: Want a different type of frozen treat? Try Tuttimelon at Union Landing. Pick from a variety of frozen yogurt flavors, including tart, chocolate and pomegranite, or try one of the more than 40 varieties of gelato and sorbet. Then add your toppings, which range from chocolate chips and nuts to fruity cereal and graham cracker crumbs.
  3. Starbucks: Get your afternoon caffeine boost while cooling down by grabbing an iced cold coffee, latte or Frappuccino at one of the four Starbucks cafes in town. Feeling adventurous? Try the newest flavor, Mocha Coconut, or mix your favorite flavors together.
  4. : A popular hangout with unique blends of coffee, Paddy's Coffee House also has a variety of tantalizing frozen offerings. Pick from a number of smoothies, iced teas and freezes, including the new Bomb Diggity Freeze, Yo—an iced blend of chai and minty chocolate named after a customer's reaction to the new flavor.
  5. Tapioca Express: From milk teas to fruit juices and smoothies, head out to Tapioca Express for your cold, delectable exotic drink. Add pearls (boba) or different jellies to bring more flavor to your beverage. Pearl Milk Tea is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan, according to Tapioca Express’ website. The Union City store is at 1707 Decoto Rd.
