UCPD Welcomes New Officers and Cadets

The agency also bid farewell to longtime reserve officer Ed Ruckli.

The Union City Police Department welcomed its newest crop of officers during a special swearing-in ceremony Thursday afternoon. 

The agency introduced four fresh-faced police officers: Troy Cushman, Angela Fonseca, Duc Nguyen and Joshua Vasicek.

“We’re really happy to have this group,” said Cmdr. Ben Horner. “They’re very well-qualified.”

The new officers will replace those who have recently retired, according to Horner.

“We’re trying to maintain service the best as we can,” Horner said.

This group is the first batch of new hires since August 2011, according to Horner.

UCPD also introduced four new police cadets on Thursday.

Gregory Louie, Michelle Northington, Nicolas Siacotos and Henry Tran were welcomed to the department.

Capping off the event was a farewell to longtime reserve officer Edward Ruckli, who will retires after 30 years of volunteer service with UCPD.
