Threat Of Racist, Antisemitic Comments Scuttles Zoom Input In UC

Union City will no longer allow anonymous callers to comment via Zoom during meetings.

UNION CITY, CA — Residents who choose to attend Union City Council, Commission, and Committee Meetings will no longer be allowed to submit virtual public comments via Zoom. The change is effective next Tuesday.

The City is making the change because of racist and antisemitic rhetoric by anonymous callers during multiple city and regional meetings in the Bay Area. "These changes are a preventative measure against disruptive behavior that may otherwise hinder the ability to conduct city business and maintain meeting decorum," the city advised when announcing the change.
