Name? Tina Bueno Nishihira

Where do you live? Union City

How long have you lived there? 38 years

What do you like about where you live? I have lived in Union City since I can remember and I love the diversity in my community. When I was growing up, I had friends from almost every ethnic group and it made me appreciate and learn about other cultures. Even now, where can you go and find food from all over the world in one place!?

How long have you been reading the UC Patch? About 2 years

What do you like about the UC Patch? I like how all the news is local to my community. It keeps me up to date on what is going on both good and the not so good. It has taken the place of my newspaper.

What is one thing you want your community to know about you? One thing I would like my community to know about me is that I am a very passionate person. I was raised by a single mom and I have her to thank for that. I was a very shy child growing up and even into my adulthoood. After meeting my husband, I have "come out of my shell", so to speak and especially after I had children. I wanted to be a good role model for them and how could I do that if I didn't show them that if you want something, you have to speak up and be willing to fight for it if necessary. I am very involved in my kids education. I am on the PTC at my daughter's elementary school and volunteer on a regular basis. I feel that our system may be broken but with passionate parents like myself and my husband, it can be changed for the better and it doesn't take much. Just show your children that you are interested in their education and they will follow your lead.

If you could have lunch with any famous person, who would it be and why? I would love to have lunch with President Obama. What is a day in his life really like? How does he deal with the non-supporters? He just seems to be so confident and always well poised and I wonder if he ever gets nervous. I just feel that he has so much to tell and I would love to hear about how he has dealt with being the first African American President and how it has changed his life.
