Authorities Identify Man, Woman Killed In Mar Vista House Fire

A woman, man and pet cat were killed in a house fire Wednesday in Mar Vista.

MAR VISTA, CA — Authorities on Thursday identified the man and woman killed in a Mar Vista house fire.

Albert Sassoe Jr., 65, and Doris Bergmann, 68, died at the scene of a house fire on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. No other injuries were reported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Authorities responded to the fire at 3537 S May Street early Wednesday morning, according to the LAFD. Flames were fully extinguished at the 1,096-square-foot home around 2:50 a.m., LAFD said.

"In searching the premises, LAFD responders discovered two persons, one male and one female ... as well as a pet cat, had perished in the flames," LAFD said.

Some 20 LAFD personnel responded to the fire Wednesday.

Authorities continued to investigate the fire.
