DUI Checkpoint Slated For Friday In Venice
The Los Angeles Police Department will be holding a DUI checkpoint on July 21.
VENICE, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department announced they would be holding a DUI checkpoint on July 21 in Venice.
Police will be stationed at Venice Boulevard and Walgrove Avenue from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. The LAPD will also conduct a series of DUI Saturation Patrols and Checkpoints throughout the week in different locations throughout the city.
According to a statement from the LAPD, the location was based on data trends that show where impaired driving-related crashes happen.

"The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by educating drivers on the perils of DUI and by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road," the LAPD said in a statement.

- Wednesday, July 19
- DUI Saturation Patrol from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Olympic Area
- Thursday, July 20
- DUI Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Alameda Street and 3rd Street
- Friday, June 21
- DUI Saturation Patrol from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the Central Area
- Saturday, July 22
- DUI Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Victory Boulevard and Babcock Avenue
- DUI Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Marylee Street
- DUI Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Crenshaw Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard
- Sunday, July 23
- DUI Saturation Patrol from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the West Valley Area
Impaired driving doesn't just include alcohol, some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, other illegal drugs and marijuana can also land someone a DUI.
First-time DUI charges can cost an average of $13,500 in fines and drivers could get their licenses suspended if convicted.
