Farewell, but not Goodbye

From Mar Vista to Culver City

Dear Marvelous Mar Vistans,

As many of you already know, Sunday will be my last day as the editor of Mar Vista Patch. I am still with the Patch family and am merely moving down the road to become the new editor of Culver City Patch.

This is a bittersweet moment for me. I have grown to love Mar Vista and am truly grateful to each and every one of you that has openly embraced both me and Mar Vista Patch.

You don’t need me to tell you (but I will anyway) that Mar Vista is an incredible neighborhood; a community full of innovative, caring, nurturing people who don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk.

While Mar Vista Patch didn’t officially launch until Feb. 4, 2011, I began working in the community back in October 2010, meeting many of you and working to launch a site that fully embraced the ethos of Mar Vista and the incredible community spirit you all have. I drank many cups of tea as I met many of you in those weeks before launching the site and I was impressed by how hard each and every one of you work to make Mar Vista such a wonderful place to live. I consider many of you my friends – some of you even showed up to my birthday party – thank you!

Mar Vista is truly a shining beacon of how a community should be and I feel blessed to have been a part of it. I am in awe of how many volunteer hours so many of you put into making this community so special and I feel honored that you have allowed me to witness and report on all your amazing efforts.

It’s impossible to list individually all the incredible people that have helped me be able to do my job in Mar Vista, but you know who you are and I thank each and every one of you.

I won’t be a stranger. You’ll still see me at the Mar Vista Farmers’ Market on Sundays, I’ll be taking the April 2012 Green Garden Showcase Tour and I can’t wait to take part again in next year’s Mar Vista Turkey Ride. I hope you’ll stop and say hi when you see me around town.

For now, please welcome the Mar Vista Patch Guest Editor – Brooke Wirtschafter. Brooke is a Mar Vista local as many of you know, and writes our Mom’s the Word column. I hope you’ll reach out to her and embrace her in the same way you reached out and embraced me.

Although I say goodbye to Mar Vista Patch with a tear in my eye, I’m thrilled that Brooke has agreed to be our interim editor. I leave Mar Vista Patch in her very capable hands. You can reach her at brooke.wirtschafter@gmail.com.

See you at the market!
