Venice Resident Wins 'Chef Wanted'

The former USC Trojan and NFL player pulls together his cooking team to score perhaps the biggest gig of his life.

Former USC Trojan and NFL player LaJuan Ramsey scored a victory Thursday night when he was named executive chef for Christy’s on Broadway.

Ramsey competed against three chefs on the national Food Network show, "Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell." The Venice resident showed his culinary muscle and flare for teamwork, out-hustling and outperforming the competition.

The popular Christy’s on Broadway in Long Beach is a highly acclaimed restaurant of longstanding, owner and operated by the daughter of Sonny Bono, Christy Bono. She and her general manager were on the show and made the final selection.

Here's a Food Network blog on which Ramsey answers questions about his past, his present and his future. During the show, he was seen choking up when talking about his former football career.
