
- A 48-year-old Los Angeles Unified School District administrator has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to meet with a 15-year-old former student for the purposes of committing a lewd act. Robert Nagai had an "ongoing inappropriate relationship" with the student, police said. He was an assistant principal at Hale Middle School. He left the school in 2011 and has been working in operations at the Educational Service Center since then. Police did not say if the alleged victim is a girl or boy.
- Communities throughout the Southland will participate tonight in the 30th annual National Night Out. National Night Out is designed to strengthen police-community partnerships and neighborhood spirit, heighten crime- and drug- prevention awareness, and generate support for and participation in local anti- crime programs. - The ultraviolet index level for Tuesday in the Los Angeles area is 11, according to the National Weather Service. The reading indicates what the UV exposure is expected to be at noon, when the sun's rays are at their strongest. A very high exposure level reading of 10, or greater, means a fair skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected. Ultraviolet radiation is blamed for a host of health problems, including skin cancer and cataracts.
- Princeton review has released its annual Top Colleges list. The country's top 20 schools were ranked in more than 60 categories, including academics and campus life, in the 2014 edition of “The Best 378 Colleges,” which goes on sale Tuesday. You can read more here.
