Murder Suspect Arrested At Venice Motel Following Hours-Long Standoff

LAPD officers surrounded a Venice motel for hours Tuesday in order to apprehend a murder suspect.

VENICE, CA — Los Angeles Police Department officers and detectives surrounded a Venice motel for hours on Tuesday in order to arrest a potential murder suspect that was barricaded inside one of the rooms.

Officers first arrived at the scene at 1:17 p.m., according to LAPD Public Information Officer Warren Moore. Officers announced the suspect had been arrested at 5:27 p.m., meaning the standoff lasted just over four hours.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter around a motel located near Venice Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard. Nearby areas were closed and evacuated during the incident, but were re-opened when the investigation concluded, officers said. the investigation until further notice, according to LAPD Public Information Officer Warren Moore.

An LAPD SWAT team was dispatched to aid in the standoff and were ultimately the ones to arrest the suspect according to department officials. No information about the victim or when the suspected murder occurred was available, Moore said.

Lincoln Boulevard was closed between Venice Boulevard and Garfield Avenue during the standoff, creating a traffic nightmare in the heavily traveled corridor at the onset of the afternoon rush hour. Several schools in the area were also locked down.

Around 5 p.m., officers were seen leading a handcuffed suspect out of the motel. There were no reports of any injuries stemming from the standoff.
