Largest Coronavirus Outbreak In Venice Reported At Restaurant

At least 28 people have tested positive for the coronavirus at a Venice restaurant.

VENICE, CA — At least 28 people have tested positive for the coronavirus at Gjelina, a Venice restaurant, as COVID-19 cases more than doubled in Los Angeles Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed cases was released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and indicates the number of people who have tested positive since the fall.

The restaurant announced that it would scale back operations and closed Monday because it had a limited team this week.

"Due to the increase in Covid positive cases, we are operating Gjelina with a limited team. We will be closed today. @gjelinatakeaway, @gjustagrocer, & @gjustabakery remain open," the restaurant group announced on Instagram.

The number of cases reflects data collected by the county.

"These include cases reported since the beginning of the current active outbreak and may include some cases that have since recovered," according to public health officials.

"These data are dynamic and may not reflect real-time investigation counts for these settings," according to public health officials. "Data will change based on daily information gathered by public health investigators overseeing, supervising, and closing each investigation."

Gjelina is located at 1429 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice.

Patch reached out to the restaurant group for more information and if the restaurant plans to stay closed due to the outbreak.
