Mar Vista Designer’s Work Showcased at Primetime Emmy Gift Lounge

Celebrities including Mariska Hargitay, Marcia Cross and Sarah Jessica Parker have received R. Jean Roth's artisan apparel.

Mar Vista-based graphic designer R. Jean Roth has launched a new line of artisan apparel that has literally reached the stars - thanks to an opportunity to have celebrities sample her work and to have it presented at the GBK 2012 Primetime Emmys Gift Lounge, which took place last month.

Roth’s self-described new “graphic-luxe”  Rotem Limited Edition line was chosen to be part of the The Artisan Group, an exclusive, juried organization of crafters and designers whose mission is to introduce Hollywood to the best of the handcrafted movement.

After being laid off in the corporate world in 2003, Roth started her own design service and expanded her company into the graphic pop culture t-shirt line Rotem Gear that receives orders from customers around the world.

Roth has now moved beyond her t-shirt line to her  Rotem Limited Edition  artisan line that consists of an ever-changing limited inventory of scarves, cardigans, drape jackets and fashion tops. Currently focusing on local botanical designs, Roth uses her own photography to extract what she sees as the “essence” of the photograph's subject, whether a flower, branch, or fruit.

“We experiment with the inks we use to achieve different effects, resulting in a translucent, graceful, print that evokes Zen paintings in its elegant simplicity, “ Roth said.  The nod to Asian artistic influence is no accident. Roth's academic and professional background focused on Japanese language and culture.

Artisan scarves and tops from the line have been gifted to celebrities such as Mariska Hargitay, Marcia Cross, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks and Ginnifer Goodwin.

“I'm fortunate to be able to enjoy creating for two different lines―one subtle and artistic, and one fun and tongue-in-cheek––and I'm looking forward to seeing the new line evolve,“ Roth said.
