Mar Vista Hero Ensures 'No One Feels Alone Or Forgotten'

MAR VISTA, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

How do you know the local hero?

What does the local hero do?

Retired, President of the MV Senior Club

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

He is a 24/7 caregiver for a blind/deaf 96-year-old lady. In addition, he heads the MVSC, daily making calls to enlist volunteer speakers, entertainment, elected officials to help our club help the seniors there to help maintain our 30-year existence independently, he makes calls to members daily to celebrate birthdays with a song, remember anniversaries, console the loss of loved ones.

He calls when one is sick or hasn’t attended a meeting in a while. He calls to remind the forgetful of the meeting coming up, he makes sure everyone is apprised of changes in social security, Medicare, etc that are pertinent to them. He sends out a weekly recap of meetings and a calendar of events for coming meetings and aids in planning trips and tours for members. He comes with a cheery, uplifting outlook and did all that could be done for everyone, even during the COVID-19 pandemic blackout, to be sure no one felt alone or forgotten. Most importantly, he CARES. He is our hero!

He cares about seniors and does everything to enhance their daily lives & experience.
