MVCC Member Maritza Przekop Completes NY Marathon
The Mar Vista resident clocked in at 7:03:30.
Maritza Przekop returned from her whirlwind trip to New York last week with bragging rights… and a bad head cold.
Przekop, who serves on the Mar Vista Community Council board joined 47,000 other runners to take part in the Nov. 4, 42nd ING New York City Marathon. She completed the race in 7:03:30.
An avid competitor, Prezkop has undertaken a slew of full marathons and half marathons, and confesses that she walks a lot of the courses or parts of them. “It’s quite a lot of races, especially for a regular mortal,” Przekop told Patch.

During the NY Marathon, Przekop said her boyfriend kept track of her time and said she did one mile in 11 minutes and another mile in 18 minutes, but confesses during that 18-minute mile she stopped to eat a hotdog.
Przekop’s day job is as a city planning associate for the City of Los Angeles and she told Patch, “As a planner I get to see streets from a different perspective and hopefully learn about what makes that perfect public space. Running, jogging, walking - everything that takes to finish and the sense of accomplishment is very personal.”

Przekop also took part in the this year. She walked the entire course in the pouring rain after recovering from a double foot fracture in June, 2010.
“I’m really happy having walked [the LA Marathon] in difficult conditions and now being able to finish the NY Marathon, it’s awesome,” she said.
Przekop said taking part in marathons and half marathons “is an amazing experience,” and she hopes to encourage others to participate.
