Photos: A Wet and Wild Day at the Mar Vista Farmers' Market
Despite the torrential downpour, loyal shoppers still made their way to the Mar Vista Farmers' Market on Sunday.
There were big plans afoot for the Mar Vista Farmers' Market this Sunday ahead of Thanksgiving weekend. Chef Jonathan Schuler was supposed to be on hand to demonstrate how to , and your intrepid Patch editor planned on filming the demo to share with our readers. Unfortunately, oil and water don't mix and Market Manager Diana Rodgers told me Schuler had stayed at home under the covers.
Open Neighborhoods' James Brennan wasn't having a particularly sunny morning either, and he definitely needed one. As we both stood huddled under his Go Solar Tent, Brennan tried to stop the rain from washing away his brochures.
As fate would have it, Sunday was in fact and a large crowd was expected to attend for a photo op outside the post office, to show their support for the and the making the switch to solar energy.

The irony did not escape Brennan. On the one day everyone was meant to band together to support solar energy the sun refused to come out. Nonetheless, Brennan remained to man his booth even as the rain drops pelted him and threatened to send all his papers flying.
By 10:30 a.m. the heavens had opened and the rains were coming down thick and fast. Vendors started shaking the tops of their waterlogged tents and people wrapped their coats tighter around them, huddled under their umbrellas and zipped up the plastic covers on their kids' strollers.

Despite the downpour, one thing was clear. Mar Vista Farmers' Market-goers are a loyal bunch. Shoppers turned out despite the weather. They still made their way to their favorite produce stands, and made sure to wrap up their purchases tightly.
As I was leaving the market with my own produce (some delicious baby eggplants, green onions and parsnips), Rodgers said, "Go home and get back into bed!" I laughed and just thought of something my mother always says: "A drop of water never hurt anyone yet."
