Police Blotter: Jewelry Robberies on the Rise
The high price of gold may be one reason why gold chain thefts are on the rise in the Mar Vista/Del Rey area

The following information was provided by Mar Vista Senior Lead Officer Marcy Garcia.
Aug. 24
Two robberies on Braddock Drive. Both robberies involved a suspect or suspects taking gold chains from two separate victims.

With the current price of gold at $1,800 per ounce and climbing, Officer Garcia says this may indicate a new trend in street robberies.
The first robbery occurred at 10 a.m. at 11735 Braddock Dr. The suspect was described as a black male with black hair, approximately 28 years old, between 140-160 pounds and around 5’ 7or 5’8. He was wearing a red T-shirt and red shorts. Bodily force was used in the robbery.

The second robbery occurred at 2 p.m. on the corner of Braddock and Stoner. The suspect was described as an Hispanic male, approximately 20 years old, around 5’4 and wearing a red jacket hoodie and blue jeans. Bodily force was also used in this robbery.
Sept. 1
Robbery on Bray St/Inglewood Blvd at approximately 2:45 p.m. The suspect approached the victim at the bus stop, grabbed the victim’s necklace she was wearing around her neck and threw her to the ground causing injuries. The victim’s necklace broke and the suspect was only able to take the coin medallion. The suspect is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, approximately 20 -25 years old, weighing between 150 – 170 pounds and approximately 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.
Sept. 9
Robbery at approximately11: 30 a.m. on Inglewood and Braddock. The suspect approached the victim and ripped her chain from her neck. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 18 years old, around 5’10, weighing 130 pounds. He wore a black T-shirt and black shorts. He entered a black vehicle. Model and make unknown.
