About 45,000 People Lose Power On Westside

About 45,000 people lost power Wednesday morning on the Westside, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power reported.

MAR VISTA, CA — About 45,000 people on the Westside lost power during rainy weather Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power reported.

A fire at one of the receiving stations nearby prompted the outage, the department said.

Firefighters were sent to the LADWP facility in the 1800 block of Centinela Avenue at 10:16 a.m. and extinguished the flames, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. No one was hurt.

"The fire at our receiving station on #Westside is out," LADWP said via Twitter. "No injuries. Limited damage. Crews are working now to switch circuits within station to begin restoring power. No estimated time of restoration at this point, but customers should slowly start coming back online soon."

Restoration of power was expected sometime Wednesday afternoon. Some residents reported having power restored shortly before noon.

Traffic lights were out near the area of National and Overland, and Venice, Mar Vista and Rancho Park residents in the surrounding areas described losing power.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
