Venice Homeless Man Charged In Shooting Caught On Video
A homeless man was charged Tuesday with attempted murder for a bar fight shooting that was captured in a graphic video in Venice.
LOS ANGELES, CA — An attempted murder charge was filed against a homeless man who allegedly opened fire outside a bar in Venice, in a shooting caught on cell phone video, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
Robert Leo Mewhorter, 46, pleaded not guilty Monday and remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail while awaiting his next appearance April 11 at the Airport Courthouse on the felony charge, which includes allegations that he used a handgun and caused great bodily injury.
Mewhorter allegedly got into an argument last Wednesday with an unnamed bar patron, returned soon afterward and opened fire, injuring the man, according to prosecutors.

He was arrested the next day by the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division, jail records show.
If convicted as charged, Mewhorter could face up to 34 years to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
