Decades-old Victorville City Library ready to start new chapter uptown (vvdailypress.com) — Victorville’s longtime Circle Drive library will permanently close on Dec. 21 as staff and books move to a much larger new Victorville City Library on Green Tree Boulevard. The new space, built at the city-owned golf course, will offer expanded children’s areas, teen space, meeting rooms, and a makers room, with a community celebration planned in the new year.

San Bernardino County retail theft task force nets123 arrests in 2 weeks (vvdailypress.com) — Victorville shoppers are seeing stepped-up law enforcement as a countywide retail theft task force targets local shopping districts, including Victorville, during the holiday season. In just two weeks, deputies made 123 arrests and recovered more than $67,000 in stolen merchandise while conducting hundreds of traffic stops and pedestrian checks to deter organized theft crews.

San Jose California Temple renamed the Sunnyvale California Temple (thechurchnews.com) — Local Latter-day Saints may be interested that a new Victorville mission is planned as part of a broader Church expansion in California. The Church also renamed its planned San Jose temple to the Sunnyvale California Temple, while continuing to build and renovate several other temples statewide, reflecting ongoing growth of its nearly 730,000 California members.

Person found dead following intense house fire in Lucerne Valley (vvdailypress.com) — Victorville-area residents may notice increased emergency activity after a deadly house fire in nearby Lucerne Valley, where firefighters found an adult victim inside a burned home on Northside Road. County fire crews, assisted by Apple Valley firefighters and a bomb squad, contained the intense blaze, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station.
