Child Possibly Bitten By Snake, Airlifted From Mount Diablo State Park

A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew flew the 7-year-old boy to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA— A 7-year-old child was rescued by helicopter Wednesday from Mount Diablo State Park and flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries possibly suffered from a snake bite.

Emergency rescue personnel with several agencies — Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, California Highway Patrol, California State Parks, East Bay Parks and AMR Contra Costa County — responded around 4 p.m. Wednesday to the boy's location near 96 Mitchell Canyon Road.

CHP helicopter crew H-30 found a landing zone near Mitchell Canyon Road and airlifted the "seriously injured child" to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, according to CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations.

"It is unknown if he was bit by a snake (one was never seen) however it is suspected he was," CHP Air Operations said.

The condition of the child was not known Wednesday night.

Officials with California State Parks Mount Diablo were investigating the incident, the CHP said.
