CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A downed tree was blocking BART's train tracks between the Concord and Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre stations amid Wednesday's stormy weather.

BART initially issued an alert around 7:15 p.m. about the obstruction, which is causing major delays in the Antioch and SFO directions.

The agency wrote on Twitter that a train operator inspected the scene and found that while the tracks were not obstructed, "the tree is wedged between the coverboard and third rail which could cause problems for any trains passing through."

Trains will single-track around the area until crews remove the tree. There is no estimate yet for when service will resume on both tracks through the area, but BART has said trains are going slower amid the wet and windy weather so passengers should expect delays.
