Freeze Watch Issued For Walnut Creek, East Bay

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Much colder weather is forecast to arrive Sunday night in much of the Bay Area, including Walnut Creek, and is expected to continue until at least Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said.

A freeze watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning, when sub-freezing temperatures of 32 degrees or colder are possible in the East Bay and throughout the Bay Area.

In Walnut Creek, overnight temperatures will dip to 31 Monday and 28 Tuesday, according to AccuWeather.

"Frost and freeze conditions will impact unsheltered and marginally sheltered populations, kill crops/sensitive vegetation, impact outdoor pets/livestock, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the National Weather Service said.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."
