WALNUT CREEK, CA — An injured 12-year-old horseback rider was airlifted to safety after falling off her horse in a remote area on the north side of Mount Diablo, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District found the girl on the north side of Mount Diablo.

They called in the sheriff's department's STARR3 helicopter crew to lift her to an ambulance.

A tactical flight officer lowered to where she lay on the trail airlifted her up the hillside to an ambulance. She was transported to a local hospital.
