CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Major BART delays are continuing Tuesday morning on the Antioch line because of a problem with train routing equipment between the Concord and Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre stations.

The problem was reported early Tuesday morning and was still affecting service as of shortly after 7 a.m. BART officials said train operators are having to manually maneuver crossover tracks between the two stations, a move the agency refers to as "cranking a switch."

Some trains were also taken out of service because of wheel flats caused by recent rain in the area, according to BART.

Bus shuttles were taking riders between the two stations as a result of the equipment problem. There is no estimate yet for when regular train service will resume Tuesday.

BART tracks between the Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre and Concord stations have had various problems in recent months, including a partial train derailment in June, and have been the site of several weekends of track upgrade work by the agency's crews.
