Multi-City Police Chase Ends In Walnut Creek: Authorities

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A Fremont man faces charges after fleeing the scene of a burglary and leading police on a chase through several East Bay cities before abandoning his vehicle in Walnut Creek, according to authorities.

David Barnett, 52, is charged with burglary, grand theft and petty theft, police said, adding he also had several felony arrest warrants.

Deputies responded May 15 to a reported burglary on Evora Road in Bay Point, according to police, who said the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office’s STARR3 helicopter helped authorities locate Barnett’s white work van.

Barnett drove onto Highway 4 and was pursued by deputies on southbound Highway 242 and westbound Highway 24 before he drove down an on-ramp in the area of Mount Diablo Boulevard and police ended the chase, authorities said.

Barnett abandoned his vehicle in Walnut Creek and was later taken into custody, according to police, who said he was booked into jail and held in lieu of $462,500 bail.
