📰 News we're reading

• Time Has Caught Up With Walnut Creek: Projects Put Rules To The Test (patch.com) — Walnut Creek’s Planning Commission advanced three controversial local projects, including a seven-story mixed-use complex near the BART station, the conditional reopening of Al Judiy Academy on Buena Vista Avenue, and a tightly conditioned short-term rental on Hacienda Drive. Neighbors raised concerns about traffic, parking, noise, and neighborhood character, prompting added requirements like traffic and sound studies, outreach, and a one-year trial permit for the rental.

• Contra Costa residents ‘Stand Together' to help undocumented migrants (eastbaytimes.com) — Walnut Creek–based Indivisible ReSisters is helping lead Contra Costa efforts to support undocumented immigrants facing ICE actions at the busy federal immigration court in Concord. Local officials have committed over $3 million this fiscal year to Stand Together Contra Costa’s legal defense and hotline services, while a new $10 million Stand Together Bay Area fund aims to bolster nonprofits aiding immigrant families across the region.
