The report also credits Walnut Creek for expanding electric vehicle charging stations, underscoring the city’s growing role in regional efforts to cut emissions and promote greener infrastructure.
   

• East Bay woman who embezzled $1.6M from charity gets 2 years in federal prison (mercurynews.com) — A Walnut Creek-based charity, Junior Achievement of Northern California, was the victim of a years-long embezzlement scheme by its former financial manager, who stole more than $1.6 million. The Pleasant Hill woman has now been sentenced in federal court to 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release for the fraud, which ran from 2017 to 2023.
   

• New NY Liberty coach Chris DeMarco praises Warriors during introductory press conference (eastbaytimes.com) — Walnut Creek native Sabrina Ionescu is a key star on the New York Liberty team that new head coach Chris DeMarco is taking over after years as a Golden State Warriors assistant. DeMarco praised the Warriors’ culture, detailed his defensive-minded coaching philosophy, and said he’s excited to guide the defending 2024 WNBA champions through looming labor uncertainty while working with Ionescu, Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart.
