Walnut Creek Man Arrested In Connection With Shooting
An arrest was made within hours of the Sierra Drive shooting.
WALNUT CREEK, CA — A Walnut Creek man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first degree murder and other charges in connection with a shooting last week in Walnut Creek.
Officers were dispatched to reports of shots fired shortly after 7:15 p.m. Feb. 18 in the 100 block of Sierra Drive—off Walnut Boulevard —but the suspect in the shooting had already left the area.
Walnut Creek police detectives and officers quickly identified Melvin Kibbee, 43, as the person believed to be responsible.

Kibbee was apprehended early the next morning and booked into the Martinez jail on suspiocion of attempted first-degree murder, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and prohibited person in possession of ammunition. His bail was initially set at $600,000 but by Tuesday had been increased to $1.23 million , jail records showed.
"The Walnut Creek Police Department would like to thank the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff, the Concord Police Department, East Bay Regional Parks Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol for their assistance in apprehending the suspect," Walnut Creek PD said in a statement.

Police did not disclose a possible motive but said Kibbee and the victim knew each other.
No one was injured in the shooting and there were no outstanding suspects, according to police.
