Jay Leno Jokes About Alejo's Jury Service Bill

Punchline: 'Talk about jobs that Americans don't want to do'.

Late-night host Jay Leno cracked a joke about local legislator's efforts to allow immigrants to serve on juries in California.

The comedian joked: "Plans are being discussed in California to let illegal immigrants serve on juries. Talk about jobs that Americans don't want to do! 'Right, fine, yeah, yeah, good, it's all yours! Thank you!'

The joke, made on Wednesday night's show, got good laughs, according to news site MexicoPerspective.com.

Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Watsonville) is one of the sponsors of the bill. He shared the funny via social media:

"Jay Leno just did a late night joke about my bill AB1401 to let immigrants serve on juries," Alejo wrote on Facebook.

AB1401 would allow non-citizens to serve on juries. It passed the state Assembly last week.

Leno's joke came after the LA Times editorialized against the bill Monday.

"Just as citizens, and only citizens, have the power to elect their executive branch leaders and their delegates to the legislative branch, citizen jurors have the final check on at least some judicial branch decisions," the Times wrote.
