Watsonville: One Dead, Two Injured After Suspected DUI Hit-And-Run

One driver fled from the Saturday morning crash but was later found. Police believe alcohol or other drugs may have been a factor.

WATSONVILLE - At least one person was killed early this morning in what investigators suspect was a DUI hit-and-run collision, the Watsonville Police Department said Saturday.

Officers responded to an injury collision involving a Honda Accord and a Ford truck at Main Street and East Lake Avenue at 12:33 a.m. Saturday morning.

Investigators determined that the Ford had been traveling north on Main Street and the Honda had been traveling west on East Lake Avenue when the two vehicles collided, according to police.

A man and woman were both ejected from the Ford. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene and the woman was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Further details about her condition were not immediately available.

The Honda’s driver had been witnessed fleeing the scene on foot, according to police, and they found him at his residence hours later suffering from serious injuries. He was also airlifted to a hospital.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the crash, but they believe alcohol or drugs may have been a factor.
