City Invites Community To Participate In 'Art In Odd Places'

West Hollywood partnered with artist Ed Woodham and his organization, Art in Odd Places, to bring art to unexpected places in the City.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — The City has partnered with artist Ed Woodham and his organization, Art in Odd Places (AiOP), to bring visual and performance art to unexpected places in West Hollywood, it was announced Friday. There will be two free events — a Artist Talk with Woodham, and a workshop — coming up in West Hollywood.

"Art in Odd Places aims to stretch the boundaries of communication in the public realm by presenting artworks in all disciplines outside the confines of traditional spaces, and reminds us that public spaces function as the epicenter for diverse social interactions and the unfettered exchange of ideas," the City of West Hollywood said.

Arts organizations, curators, individual artists, local businesses, and community members are invited to attend a free Artist Talk with Woodham to learn about Art in Odd Places from past years, and discuss strategies for a future Art in Odd Places in West Hollywood. The talk will be on Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m. in the AiOP pop-up space below Eveleigh Restaurant (located at 8752 Sunset Boulevard). RSVP is requested for the talk.

There will also be a AiOP Public Intervention Workshop on Friday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the AiOP pop-up space. Visual and performance artists, writers, architects, designers, urban planners, and social activists are invited to attend this one-day workshop "envisioned as a space for artists to design potential interventions," the City press release said.

"Interventions may take the form of tours, tactical and site performance, temporal installations, video or sound projections, digital platforms, community involved projects, peer-to-peer platforms, print or online publication, or a street event," the City said. "Ed welcomes artists with no prior public art experience, who are interested in moving from the traditional studio, gallery, and theatre space into the urban arena."
