Arvada Love Birds Reunited After One Flies The Coop

Arvada police animal control officers rescued a forlorn love bird who'd left home and was hiding in a gardening shop.

ARVADA, CO – A lovesick love bird was recovered by Arvada animal control officers and reunited with its soul mate Friday, police said.

The winged wanderer had flown the coop and ended up taking refuge in the outdoor plant area of Malara Gardens, a 20-year-old family-owned gardening center at 7190 Kipling St., said Manager Lisa Aiello.

"A female customer found it among our plants in the backyard. She was adept at handling birds, so she caught it and walked in the store," Aiello said. "We put him in a box with a little cup of water and an apple, one of our gals here called animal control."

Aiello said birds aren't the only animal that shows up occasionally at the garden shop. "We get some annoying rabbits in here," she said. "And last year we had a skunk show up. We called Animal Control for him too."
