Arvada Woman Held In Missouri Motel Arson Must Have Mental Exam

Shellie Clark, 62, allegedly set fires in a Missouri motel in November and is being held on $25,000 bail.

MONROE CITY, MO – An Arvada woman held in the Randolph, Missouri County jail on an arson charge must undergo a mental fitness exam, local news sources reported.

Shellie Clark, 62, was charged with first-degree arson on Nov. 9, 2018 after allegedly setting a her room on fire at the Bel-Air Motel in Monroe City. According to news reports, Clark initially said she fell asleep with a lit candle in her room, but later in the motel lobby she allegedly tried to set fire to plastic plants and other objects with a lighter, local reports said.

Clark is being held in custody on a $25,000 bond, reduced from $50,000 at the request of her defense lawyers, who also asked that she undergo a psychiatric exam to determine her fitness to stand trial. She's scheduled to appear in Monroe County Associate Court on March 19th, a report from WTAD said.
