ARVADA, CO — A popular annual fall tradition has been canceled in Arvada.

The Harvest Festival Parade has been called off after it received a special events permit earlier this month for Sept. 11. While the city approved the parade, officials did not approve the festival's midway and carnival due to the spread of the delta variant.

"The Harvest Festival Committee subsequently determined that without these components, the parade was not feasible in 2021," the city of Arvada said in a news release Wednesday.

"The City acknowledges that the cancellation of this event will be disappointing for many as the event evokes a great deal of community pride."

The Arvada Harvest Festival began in 1925 as a celebration of the first concrete road, Grandview Avenue, between Arvada and Denver.

“This is an important and historic event for our community,” said Ryan Stachelski, the city's community and economic development director.

“Although current conditions in the Olde Town area make it challenging to hold the event in its traditional format, we are eager to work with the Harvest Festival Committee to find alternatives to support a safe and enjoyable festival in 2022.”

The festival is organized and hosted by the Arvada Jaycees, volunteers and the Arvada Junior Chamber Foundation.
