Puppy Inside Car Stolen From Arvada: Police

Police are looking for a 2018 Ford Fusion with Texas license plate LCD7785. The missing puppy is a dachshund, wearing a green harness.

ARVADA, CO – A car was stolen early Sunday morning in Arvada with a puppy inside, Arvada police said Tuesday.

Cheliesa Anderson and husband Stone and newborn child were stopped in Arvada overnight visiting an aunt on a family trip from Texas to Oregon, police said.

The family's 2018 Ford Fusion with Texas license plate LCD7785 was parked in front of a home in the 6900 block of Nelson Street around 5:40 a.m. Dec. 9, police said. Owners were loading the vehicle and had placed the dog “Ciri” inside of the car while they went to get their other dog. When the owners came out, the vehicle and the puppy were gone, police said. Anderson's purse was also in the car, she told KDVR.

“Really that’s all we want back is the dog. I don’t care about anything else. Just the dog,” she said.

"My husband is heart broken and we just want her home no questions asked," Anderson posted on Facebook.

Although the family has shared their story on TV news and Facebook, neither the vehicle nor the dog have been recovered so far, Arvada police said.

The dog was described as a 10-month-old Dachshund puppy wearing a green harness. The puppy weighs about four pounds and has "black and brown hair with cream at the roots." The dog did not have a microchip.

"[S]he is very friendly. Probably hungry and cold," Anderson posted on Facebook.

When the family went to the local Walmart to replace newborn items also stolen in the car, Anderson said she saw the Fusion. She told KDVR that someone used her credit cards at the department store to try to buy more than $300 worth of items.

Tipsters who might know where the dog or car are located are asked to please contact police immediately. The officer working the case is Detective Aaron Buemi at 720-898-6774. You can also call Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867), police said.
