ARVADA, CO — Arvadans can expect rain, snow showers, then snow Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The first freeze of the season — 29 degrees — hit Denver's metro area early Wednesday morning, and more cold is on its way.
Arvada can expect a mostly cloudy sky Thursday morning, with a high around 49 and light wind. Then rain is likely to begin after noon, weather officials said.
The rain is expected to turn into snow showers later in the afternoon, then snow by later in the evening.

Wind could gust up to 15 mph, and some thunder is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

If you're planning to head into the mountains, be prepared for much colder weather and snow, the agency said in a hazardous weather outlook.
"Cooler weather is forecast for Thursday before another quick moving storm system impacts the region Thursday afternoon into Friday morning," the alert read.
"This system will bring light snow to most of the mountains, foothills, and Palmer Divide, where a couple inches of snow are possible. The urban corridor will see rain mixing with snow, with little to no accumulation expected."
Arvadans can expect a sunny sky this weekend, with highs in the late 60s to early 70s.
