"If you're new to winter bike commuting or just need a little encouragement to keep it up when the mercury drops, this is the day to make it happen," said a statement from DRCOG.
The National Weather Service is predicting better weather Friday with sunny skies and a high near 38. Southwest winds will be around around 5 mph -- which may bring the wind chill "feel like" temperature to -5 degrees. Yikes. That's going to end in the late morning, and winds will be calm in the afternoon.

"Much like our summer Bike to Work Day, Winter Bike to Work Day is about raising awareness of the benefits of bike commuting," said Steve Erickson, director of communications and marketing for DRCOG in a statement. "During the winter months, you'll find that it takes just a few small adjustments to your normal bike commute to help save money, time and stress all year long."
Those adjustments come primarily in the form of clothing. A warm pair of gloves, a light wool hat and layering should cover the basics. If there's snow or ice on the ground, avoid mishaps by using slower speeds and maintaining an upright position at all times, especially when turning.
