• "There is hope" Colorado widower starts grief group at Castle Rock hospital (cbsnews.com) — A weekly grief support group is meeting Monday evenings at AdventHealth Castle Rock, offering a place for residents to share loss and find support through the holidays. Started by widower and hospital volunteer Clarence Hughes, the 13‑week GriefShare program has been so successful that another session begins Jan. 26, with a small fee covering materials.
   

• Douglas County wants to crack down on shoplifting — in part by fining stores if they don't report it (denverpost.com) — Douglas County commissioners, meeting at county headquarters in Castle Rock, advanced a proposal to fine retailers in unincorporated areas if they don’t report shoplifting within 96 hours. Supporters say tougher reporting and arrests will curb theft, while retail and policy critics argue punishing victimized stores goes too far and may burden staff during busy seasons.
