📰 News we're reading

1. Mayor Yemi presents top COS achievements from 2025 (fox21news.com) — Mayor Yemi Mobolade just highlighted ten major 2025 wins for Colorado Springs, from crime reductions and more than 800 sworn CSPD officers to new affordable housing and infrastructure upgrades. He also touted expanded homeless services, international flights from the city, and a new fire station that’s cutting response times by nearly three minutes.

2. Suspect arrested in connection with burglary caught on camera (krdo.com) — A suspect has been arrested following a burglary caught on camera in a northeastern Colorado Springs neighborhood, just days after two residents were robbed hours apart. Court records show 24-year-old Dylan Elvis Hickman faces charges tied to this case and another burglary involving a U-Haul, offering some closure to neighbors rattled by the recent thefts.

3. Cheyenne Mountain State Park expands by 357 acres with $8.93 million investment (krdo.com) — Cheyenne Mountain State Park is growing by 483 acres thanks to a combined $8.93 million investment and a key land purchase by the City of Colorado Springs. The expansion, decades in the making, protects more open space along the southern Front Range and deepens the city’s long-running partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and conservation groups.

4. Mobile speed cameras cause traffic backup in Colorado Springs school zone (koaa.com) — Mobile speed cameras near Centennial Elementary are slowing drivers but also creating confusing backups on Shelton Road, frustrating many Colorado Springs commuters. Police say the temporary inconvenience is worth it to slow speeders in the 20 mph school zone, where several drivers recently received warnings for going more than 30 mph.

5. As some naturalization ceremonies across the country are canceled, Colorado Springs welcomes new citizens (gazette.com) — While naturalization ceremonies are being canceled or delayed in parts of the country, 29 people from 14 nations took their oaths inside a former courtroom at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. The local ceremony stands in contrast to broader immigration restrictions and travel bans recently expanded by the Trump administration, which have disrupted many others’ paths to citizenship.
