GOP Governor Candidate Danielle Neuschwanger Lands Endorsement From Michael Flynn

With two weeks to go before the Colorado Republican Party’s statewide assembly, GOP gubernatorial candidate Danielle Neuschwanger picked up an endorsement from former President Donald Trump’s onetime national security advisor Michael Flynn.

“It is of the utmost importance to secure constitutional governors across all 50 states to ensure the future of our great nation. It is why it gives me great honor to fully endorse and support Danielle Neuschwanger for Colorado governor,” Flynn said in a brief video posted Tuesday to Neuschwanger’s candidate Facebook page. “Danielle is the only candidate that can beat incumbent Jared Polis in the November election.”

It’s one of the highest-profile endorsements in the crowded field of Republican candidates hoping to face Polis in November.

Flynn said that Neuschwanger’s Colorado roots and small business ownership make her a strong contender. Neuschwanger is a real estate agent and founded a small HVAC company with her husband, according to her campaign website.

The controversial Flynn has been among the most prominent voices in conservative circles promoting the false claim that Trump lost the 2020 presidential election due to widespread voter fraud. He was subpoenaed by the House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol but exercised his Fifth Amendment right not to answer the committee’s questions when he faced the committee in early March.

He also recently told conservative podcast host Clay Clark that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has “upset this balance of the New World Order,” referring to a far-right conspiracy theory that claims a group of governments is seeking to create a totalitarian regime.

“It says a lot that the biggest endorsement accepted in the GOP primary so far was for Danielle from a corrupt Putin apologist. She’s siding with the far-right fringe that’s all in on conspiracy theories instead of solutions for Colorado families,” Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson Kailee Stiles wrote in an email.

Neuschwanger is one of 14 Republican candidates registered with the Secretary of State running for governor this year. She reported approximately $50,000 in contributions at the end of 2021.

Delegates at the Republican party’s state assembly on April 9 will determine which candidates qualify for the June 28 primary ballot. Whoever wins the primary will compete with Polis in the general election on Nov. 8.
