Backed by $45 million previously approved by Denver City Council, the deal shifts a key entertainment and retail hub—plus its garages—into public ownership, with additional funds set aside for planning and operations.

2. RTD 16th Street FreeRide ridership surges since Oct. 5 (denvergazette.com) — RTD’s free 16th Street shuttle is nearly back to pre-pandemic ridership after full service between Union Station and Civic Center Station resumed in October. Denver riders also get special holiday light rail service on the Downtown Loop, gingerbread-wrapped vehicles, and zero-fare New Year’s Eve rides, with several schedule changes and service alerts running through early January.

3. Colorado man says on-duty mailman was "going postal" during attack over parking (cbsnews.com) — A Denver worker says he suffered a broken cheekbone and other injuries after confronting an on-duty USPS carrier about dangerous parking outside Neko Ramen & Rice on Colorado Boulevard. Denver Police and federal postal inspectors are investigating, and USPS says it’s cooperating while stressing that misconduct isn’t tolerated. Neighbors are being urged to share any information with Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

4. Updated wolf map shows species in Denver County watershed (denvergazette.com) — Wolves have now been detected in Denver County–linked watersheds for two consecutive months, suggesting they’re becoming more comfortable near the metro area. Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s latest tracking map shows recent detections in the county’s southwest corner and continued concentration in the northern and central mountains.

5. Vacancy election selects state representative to serve out state Sen. Faith Winter's term (9news.com) — State lawmakers have filled the late Sen. Faith Winter’s seat, with Denver-based party officials holding a vacancy election to appoint Rep. William Lindstedt to represent Senate District 25. The move keeps Winter’s policy agenda alive after her fatal I-25 crash, as Lindstedt, who had already been running for the term-limited seat with her endorsement, prepares to step into the role immediately.
