Republican Economist Tim Reichert Launches Bid For Perlmutter's Congressional Seat

Republican Tim Reichert, an economist from Golden, officially launched his bid to represent Colorado’s 7th Congressional District on Thursday.

Reichert said in a press release that he will invest $500,000 of his own money into the campaign to start.

His announcement centered his own experience growing up “lower middle class” and how that led to his policy priorities to strengthen the middle class, reduce inflation and prevent people from leaving the workforce.

“I have studied the economy my entire life and I know what it will take to get our country and our middle class back on their feet. I promise to be a new voice and problem-solver for our district because I know we can champion the middle class and challenge the status quo that is failing us in Washington,” he said.

Reichert is the founder and CEO of Economics Partners, which has offices in both the United States and Israel.

Reichert has a history of donating to the Republican party and conservative candidates. In 2020, he donated $2,800 to former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign and $12,500 to the Trump Victory political action committee, according to Federal Election Commission records.

The 7th Congressional District is currently represented by Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter, who announced in January that he will not seek reelection.

The district became more competitive due to last year’s redistricting process but still has a 6.9 point Democratic advantage. It includes Jefferson, Lake, Chaffee, Park, Fremont and Custer Counties.

First-time candidate Erik Aadland, a Republican, cited the district’s competitiveness as the reason he switched from the Senate race to the House race in December. His campaign has reported over $185,000 in receipts, according to FEC filings.

Following Perlmutter’s announcement that he wouldn’t run again, Democratic state Sen. Brittany Petersen launched her own bid for the 7th Congressional District. Her campaign reported over $200,000 in fundraising within five days.

Primary elections in Colorado are on June 28.
