Thousands Without Power In Denver Metro Following Windstorm

At 12 p.m. on Thursday, crews continued to restore power to about 8,000 Xcel Energy customers.

DENVER, CO — Thousands of Xcel Energy customers woke up without power Thursday morning after a heavy windstorm the day before knocked down power lines and trees across the Denver metro area.

By 12 p.m., crews had restored power to about 112,000 customers and continued working into the night to restore power for about 8,000 remaining customers still experiencing outages, mostly in the Denver area, the power company said on its official Facebook page.

More than 450 employees and contractors worked around the close to restore power, according to the power company.

"Thank you for your patience as crews work to restore power following yesterday’s extreme weather," Xcel Energy posted to Facebook.

Restoration crews have replaced about 60 power poles and more than 7,600 feet of power lines, The Denver Channel reported.

Xcel Energy customers can text OUT to 98936 to report an outage or text STAT to check the status of your outage.

They can also monitor restoration efforts in their area by visiting the company's outage map.
