• Berthoud man offers reward for hat swept away by wind in Estes Park (timescall.com) — A longtime Berthoud resident is asking Estes Park locals to help find a cherished gray-white Resistol hat the wind carried off near the UCHealth clinic and Lake Estes on Dec. 9. The 78-year-old is offering a small cash reward and hopes someone spots the sentimental hat that’s been with him for 50 years.
   

• Wind Tunnel Research Could Help Predict How Wildfires Spread (newswise.com) — Researchers at CU Boulder are developing advanced tools to better predict how wildfires spread, work that could directly benefit Estes Park after the East Troublesome Fire raced from Grand Lake to town overnight. Using wind tunnels, they’re studying how wind, terrain, and embers drive fire behavior, aiming to give firefighters and communities earlier, more accurate guidance for evacuations and protection.
