LAKEWOOD, CO – The Taylor Estate, a Lakewood 1932 European-style 11-bedroom mansion on 64 acres will go up for auction in July after the property has not sold for $14 million. The property will be sold at "absolute auction," which means the highest bidder July 13 walks away with the deed.
The home was owned for decades by the Taylor family, purchased in the 1950s by the late Vernon “Moose” Taylor Jr., whose family owned Westhoma Oil Company, and his wife, Ann, a well-known fashion designer, model, pilot and an alternate on the U.S. Olympic Ski Team.
Truman Capote, Gregory Peck, Gerald Ford and Henry Kissinger all dined with the Taylors, who also lived and developed property in Vail. British Royal Family members would drop in from time-to-time and the estate was the site of a dinner for the" wives of the G8 summit," hosted by Hillary Clinton.

The home features nine bathrooms, a formal banquet-sized dining room, chef's kitchen, library, sitting rooms, offices, a flower-cutting room, 12 fireplaces, and three servant cottage quarters for a full-time staff. It also has tennis courts, a beach and dock privileges, two horse barns with dressage ring and an outdoor pool.
In 2015, the home and 122 acres failed to sell for $27.7 million, when it was the most-expensive property for sale in Colorado. Since then, the Taylor family's oldest son, Vernon Taylor III, lopped off half the property and lowered the price by selling 60 acres to the City of Lakewood for $6,811,465 to be used as Open Space.
