1 Dead, 1 Injured After Officer-Involved Douglas Co. Shooting

An early-morning pursuit with sheriff's police followed by a shootout left one man dead and one injured. A third person was arrested.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO –The Douglas County Sheriff identified one of the people booked into custody after a shootout and high-speed chase early Tuesday morning that left one man dead, another injured and a third arrested.

The high-speed pursuit started around 3 a.m. and ended at East Dry Creek Road and I-25. Dry Creek was closed Tuesday morning for the investigation.

Pierce Elliot Langewisch, 20, was identified as one of the people arrested after the incident. Langewisch is in custody at the Douglas County jail on a warrant for failure to identify as a sex offender, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

Spurlock said the identify of the person who was killed would not be immediately identified. He said the three might have been involved in other crimes.

Around 3 a.m., Douglas County sheriff's deputies tried to stop a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee near C470 and Broadway. People in the car fired shots at deputies and the vehicle raced away. Deputies saw the passengers in the car throwing duffle bags out the window during the pursuit, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies chased the Jeep to East Dry Creek Road near the ramp from I-25 and forced it onto the median. Suspects and deputies changed fire, with five deputies firing their weapons, Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

One person was killed and another was wounded in the gunfire. A third person was also taken into custody. No deputies were injured, but a sheriff's vehicle was damaged in the pursuit.

Following protocol, the officer involved shooting will be investigated by a Critical Incident Response Team from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
